.:Hazard Films:.

It all began in October of 1999. Hazard Films founder Brandon Clayton was attending Taylorville High School with a few friends and suddenly decided to make a movie. On October 12th, the 15 minute classic, The Taylorville Chainsaw Massacre was released to close friends and family. Somehow, copies of copies were made which led to tri-county cult classic. Several films followed with rave reviews from students and faculty, and while he was working on a shoestring budget and the acting was far from par, Brandon’s passion for filmmaking grew quickly. He turned is back on his architecture major and traded in his T-square for a tripod. Thus, Hazard Films was born.

In 2002, Hazard Films made a name for itself with its first feature, Quite Bitter Beings. While the low-budget film still showed signs of amateurish filmmaking, the film reached a cult status as the “first big film” for the company. The film appeared on a Chicago news channel without anyone from the company knowing about it. As time went on Hazard Films became bigger and better. and as the filmmaker grew, so did his audience with film’s popularity spanning the United States.

In Fall 2004, Brandon attended Southern Illinois University in Carbondale, Illinois to strengthen his abilities even more. The Hazard Films name continued to spread across Southern Illinois. It was here that Brandon met his long time Director of Photography Jared Kennedy. During his stay in Carbondale, Brandon produced over eleven short films, half of which included the work of Jared Kennedy. In 2006, Hazard Films released Six Degrees of Stardom..., a film satiring his life during his 2005 Spring Semester at college. It would be the Taylorville native's most controversial work.. Combining his love for comedic, experimental, and documentary films, Clayton produced a film that not only would gain interest on the SIU campus for years to come, but would also gain incredible amounts of hype on the festival circuit and the internet. It has been reported that the film is shown weekly at the University of South Hampton in the United Kingdom.

After the success of Six Degrees of Stardom… and Zombie Movie, Hazard Films moved the base of operations west to Los Angeles, California. While there, Brandon and Jared have been hard at work gearing up and scouting talent for future endeavors. And while the location has changed, the strongly independent feel that Hazard Films has established still remains on the screen, behind the camera, and in their hearts.
